I thought the chair had some potential. So I painted it an off-white; and then I let it sit for a LONG time before getting brave enough to tackle the upholstery part. Once I did start the upholstery work, it went faster than I thought it would. It took me about 3 hours to get the old fabric off the chair, and then another 3 hours to add the new fabric. Here's a few shots of the "after". Sorry the pictures have so many shadows in them. I was taking them after dark with the aid of some lamps.
As you can see, I got rid of the buttons and tufting. I thought this fabric had too much pattern for the tufting to look attractive. I also eliminated the separate loose cushion by just making a solid overstuffed seat. The chair is very comfortable.
No way is this your first attempt! Stunning! Are you keeping or selling? www.palmettochicks.org
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment Tara. No, it's not my first attempt at upholstery. I just can't seem to graduate past chairs, benches, or footstools. I need to get brave and tackle a sofa one of these days. I'm selling this. I'll have to check out the URL you left. :) To see even more of my DIY projects you might like to take a look at mybusiness Face Book page, just search for Kim's Kottage. I tend to post more pictures there, and more information on this blog. My problem is taking the time for the blog entry, so it's pretty sporatic. Thanks for leaving a reply. I LOVE to hear from people.

ReplyDeleteYou did such a beautiful job with the chair! I love the transformation, and the upholstery work looks great. (Visiting from Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Friday.)
ReplyDeleteThanks Arli for the nice comment and stopping by my blog!! I love getting ideas from the posts in Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Friday too.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love the transformation! And I adore the fabric. I seem to be so partial to blue these days. I too am ready to graduate from chairs and benches and have a disgusting but solid piece in my garage waiting to be my guinea pig. Follow me at NicerThanNew.com to see how it turns out. I hope it will be as nice as yours!
ReplyDeleteI have this exact same chair and want to revamp it. It's a very good quality piece of furniture though that has been in my family for about 45 + years. Nervous I'm going to devalue it.
